August Newsletter 2020

For thus says the LORD, Who created the heavens, Who is God, Who formed the earth and made it, Who has established it, Who did not create it in vain, Who formed it to be inhabited: “I am the LORD, and there is no other.” (Isaiah 45:18)

Pictured below is the first master plan of how we would love to see our church property used on the northeast corner of La Cholla and Limewood.  Desiring to be a body that pleases and obeys the Lord, it is designed to be an instrument of our vision to offer HOPE, grow in COMMUNITY, and be the CHURCH.
Designed to “offer HOPE”, the campus is open and friendly so that even a first time-attender to church is provided an inviting way to hear the good news about Jesus.  The sanctuary is designed to gather us for the sharing of God’s Word and to be a training center for missionaries and church planters sent out to impact the world.

Tons of space is planned for spiritual growth in COMMUNITY.  HopeKids gets safe and ample space for AWANA and Sunday school classes.  Youth ministry has an area where youth can develop relationship with leaders and other students pursuing the Lord.  There is fellowship space for adult classes, training, and socializing.  To encourage fellowship, all the buildings open up to wide covered patios and a large grass courtyard where families can encourage one another, and outdoor church events can take place.
Lord willing this will be a home base for Hope to continue to be the CHURCH – for the widow, the orphan, and the hungry.  Building a facility allows us to be a presence to minister to our community locally and to continue to minister to this broken world.
This has been one of the strangest times in our history when even gathering together has been a difficult thing to accomplish.  We have not really had many opportunities to discuss building plans recently.  Nevertheless, it seems right to keep moving forward with these plans as we also strive to continue to serve the Lord in the Word, missions, and service.  Please keep this process in your prayers.  Our plan moving forward is to have some small meetings in the office where you can ask questions, hear more, and communicate any thoughts.  These meetings will be held Thursday, August 13, Wednesday, August 19 and Tuesday, August 25 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the church office (8710 N. Thornydale Road, #110).  You have the option to ZOOM into these meetings too.  We are keeping the meetings to a max of 8 people in person.  Please contact Gina at info@hopetucson.com if you would like to be a part of a meeting.  We can also send an elder or two to your home group or house if you would prefer.  Lord willing sometime in the future, we might also have an opportunity on a Sunday morning as well.
On the drawing below, you can see a dotted line labeled Phase1/Phase2.  With the cost of building very high right now, we could decide as a church to only build the first two tan buildings (using the fellowship area as a sanctuary and holding off on building the actual sanctuary till later).  Or we could build all three tan buildings in the first effort (the dark brown buildings would not be built right away in either scenario).  Phase 1 will cost approximately 3.2 million, and phase 2 will cost approximately 3.5 million.  In addition, we would have to plan for contingencies and budget even more for a project this size.
That seems like such an impossible task, but I believe God has proven himself to be a “God who can do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine.” (Ephesians 3:20) If He desires us to have our own facility, He can do it.  So far, we have paid for the property and land development with cash.  Lord willing, He will continue to provide in this way.  At the same time, this church has always been generous to the needy and towards missions, and this will continue.  A facility is just one more instrument for us to serve Jesus together and bring Him glory.
It is our desire to raise a majority of the funds needed for the project before we would consider any other financial options.  In order to accomplish this, we have a designated fund for the building project and if you would like to give specifically to the building project, you can do so by directing your checks/online giving to the “building project”.  We will keep you posted as this fund grows.  In the meantime, we have land developers working with Pima County to secure plans for a building permit.
Sorry, I know this has been a long article but I wanted to answer many of the questions you have had.
In closing, please join us for one of the weekday meetings or you can contact our church Elder, John Turner at jturner@airconceptsinc.com or me at rbrainard@hopetucson.com.

we will be having in-person services (indoor and outdoor) at wilson k-8 school at our normal service times at 9:00 and 10:45 a.m.  in addition, online service will be emailed out and posted on facebook between 11:00-12:00 on sunday.  i hope you are staying connected in the word and encouraging one another in this time.  hopefully, sunday service will be part of your encouragement and fellowship!

we will do our best to honor the mandate to wear masks when social distancing cannot be maintained.  we will be disinfecting the chairs and separating the rows of chairs in the gym to give appropriate distance.  we will have hand sanitizer available and masks if you need one.  please be considerate and gracious with one another as you greet one another – making sure to express love and encouragement without hugging everyone you see 😊.

thanks for your understanding in this strange time and seeking to be a blessing.

The most important relationship we have (other than with Jesus) is our marriage, but we are often too busy to proactively work on strengthening our marriages.  We have a wonderful opportunity on the evening of September 12 to pause and have a great experience focused on encouraging us in our marriages.  Please consider joining us for RightNow Media’s 2020 Marriage Night.  This will be a virtual event and we will not all be gathering at one place.  We are excited for small groups to gather in people’s homes. Please contact Kendra at kkuntz@hopetucson.com if you are willing to host a group.

To all the frontline members of Hope who have worked so faithfully and tirelessly during this COVID-19 season – we thank you and appreciate all the ways you have sacrificed for and served our community during this time.  You are amazing!!

Discipleship Corner

I have been following Jesus for about 22 years.  During that time I have experienced many different approaches to discipleship.  Different churches, ministries and individuals take different approaches in how they try to grow in the Lord and help others do the same.  I have come to believe that the curriculum is not necessarily what is important, but what is important is a follower of Jesus being intentional in discipleship relationships with others.
D.L. Moody is famous for saying, “I like the way I do evangelism better than the way you don’t.”
So I would just encourage us to go for it!  Start being intentional.
Prayerfully consider who might disciple you and prayerfully consider who you might disciple.  You will be so blessed and so will others!
Go Get ‘em, Pastor Dave
