July Newsletter 2020

Due to the recent rise in cases of COVID-19 and our Governor’s requests, Hope has decided to put a pause on our in-person Sunday services for the next couple weeks (we will reflect on this and possibly postpone through the end of July).   We will still have the Sunday morning services sent to you via email and have them available on our Facebook page and Vimeo.

Please click on the video below to view a message from Pastor Randy regarding our most recent COVID-19 update!

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at info@hopetucson.com.

I have noticed that we live in a piranha culture these days.  If someone says or does something that the culture deems wrong, there is a violent ferocious attack of human piranhas.  For example, a group of wealthy parents not long ago used a dishonest system to get their kids into a premier university, and there was a ferocious feeding.  Almost every day someone in our world uses incorrect political terminology, and because of it, they are torn apart limb from limb on the media.  I saw a famous actor post a picture to promote reconciliation of a black man and a white police officer hugging.  The response from social media was to ridicule and destroy this actor for being insensitive to the cause.
I’m not trying to address any of the issues or take sides – but trying to encourage us all about the importance of humility from believers on how we treat each other.  Take a look at these verses below:

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.  (Ephesians 4:2)

May we have the spirit of humility and gentleness in our interactions as followers of Christ.  This does not mean we don’t speak out against wrong but we do it with humility and gentleness.

When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.  (Proverbs 11:2)

This verse from Proverbs tells us if you go into a situation with a lot of pride about your opinion, then disgrace is on the way.  Wisdom will come when we approach a situation with humility.

To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.  The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector.  I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’
“But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’
“I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”  (Luke 18:9-14)

Jesus told this parable for those who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on others.  Jesus’ parable should convince us to not assume we are right, assume we have all the facts, assume we understand the intentions of people, or assume we know someone’s heart.  Someone who thinks this way is not right before God.  We need to acknowledge our own sin and our own issues with humility as we approach God and as we approach the issues of our day.  Humble yourself and He will lift you up.  (Luke 14:11)

~ Pastor Randy

“Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”  Romans 6:3-4

Baptism gives us an awesome opportunity to confess Christ and experience the promise of Christ confessing us before His Father (Matthew 10:32).  Interested in being baptized?  Contact info@hopetucson.com.

Discipleship Corner

We are in a hard season as a nation.  COVID-19 has been a big challenge and just as things started to loosen up slightly, we hit a stretch of racial tension with protests and rioting.  There is much hurt and division and confusion.  It is clear to me through this time that we live in a sinful world and we desperately need Jesus.  Not just a religion, not just going to heaven when we die, but the transforming power of Jesus in our lives today.  No amount of political reform will fix our problems, we need Jesus!  And that makes me think about disciples making disciples.  What if more godly men were intentionally discipling other men?  What if more godly women were intentionally discipling other women?  I think we would see an amazing move of God.  Our world needs the Gospel!  And Jesus has commissioned us to spread it.
Go get ‘em!  Pastor Dave

Our Men’s Ministry teamed up with Corazon Ministries to paint classrooms at Faith Community Academy. We had 10 men from Hope that came out to help. The school administrators were very happy with the work that was performed. Thank you Hope men!

Our Family Friday videos, activity, and discussion guide are just a part of the weekly lesson provided by the Gospel Project.

Our hope is that The Gospel Project will help us teach our kids to:

Grasp Essential Christian Doctrines:  The Big Picture Questions and Answers are designed to help kids understand essential theological doctrines of the Christian faith.

See the Big Story:  Kids will understand that the Bible is not a collection of stories, but God’s unified story of redemption.

Keep an eye out for the Gospel Project video links and open the PDF to spend some time as a family in God’s Word.

Join us in showing Christ’s love to the residents at Mountain View Retirement Village!

Summer Camp 2020 was a huge blessing!  God moved in our hearts and we were happy to celebrate three new believers!  Praise God!  Thank you so much for your prayers.  It was such a blessing to see God work at camp.

As Covid-19 continues to grow in Arizona we want to be wise in how we meet as a group. We feel that meeting in person is so important, especially after camp.  We do not want to give up on meeting with each other.  To honor others, and to keep students safe we are hoping to meet separately by age groups.  Our goal is to have different meeting places for each age group.  That being said, if you are willing to open your home for a certain age group please let me know.

Love serving with you all!
