In September, Hope hosted a leader’s training for all ministry leaders, elders, staff, home group leaders, and their spouses. We had an awesome day of training and encouragement. Our speaker was Pastor Bob Fox from Red Mountain Community Church in Mesa, Arizona. In one of his sessions, he gave us a list of questions that we could ask ourselves to gauge our relationship with Jesus.
- Am I finding myself confessing and repenting of HEART sins?
- Am I finding myself thanking God for all that is gracious in Him, all that HE simply is?
- Am I finding myself speaking to God about our history together, who He has been to me at certain times and through certain seasons?
- Are my emotions being shaped by what makes HIM joyful or sad? (i.e.: concerned about our neighbors’ eternal destiny and not just whether my favorite sports team won or lost.)
- Am I hearing “Well done!” from God – or – just “You need to do better!” (I think a lot of us need to do better hearing this from the Lord when we are obedient to God.)
- Am I looking at key stress areas of my life through the lens of faith?
a) I have an Israelite in me, so what fears are driving me?
b) I have an unbeliever in me, so am I believing that God CAN do anything but likely won’t?
c) I have a Jr. Higher in me, so are my insecurities flaring up?
d) I have a survival mode in me, so am I praying with expectation, or just with fear and desperation? Thriving is His plan. (Pastor Bob Fox)
Run through these questions with your Home Group or in your time with the Lord to deepen your relationship with God and your ability to hear His voice. How are you walking in faith and not by fears and insecurities? I hope this is a blessing to all of you!

“Hope Ladies, plant a thought now for next year’s ladies’ camp! This gathering was such a beautiful time of giggles and joys, and finding kinship with each other! We are fellow travelers in Jesus, and camp makes that journey so alive with fellowship. We are loved more than you know… By our GREAT GOD, and by our Ladies’ Leadership Team. They plan, they pray, and God delivers a wonderful weekend to nourish and strengthen us. Come next year… Let Christ love you as you rest in His love. We are blessed beyond words to be cradled in the caring love of our Hope Ladies’ Ministry.” ~Linda McCurley
“Hope Women’s Camp is one of my favorite times of the year! The time away from the normal hustle and bustle of home is so special and much needed. I love being able to meet new ladies and connect on a deeper level with old and new friends. Women’s Camp is a time of laughter, tears, sharing and growing in our walk with Jesus. I feel so blessed by the hard work poured into camp by our Women’s Ministry leadership. We are spoiled by great fellowship, food, worship and learning. I love the venue for camp with all the lush greenery and the comfortable rooms. I am looking forward already to next year’s camp and have had two friends already asking if they can come too! Thanks Hope Community for this wonderful outreach! ~Dianne Schultz
Women’s Camp 2019 was an incredible experience! Suzi’s vulnerability encouraged us to glorify Him in all circumstances. Life is hard, but Gods got us. #godsgotit
Food was delicious, fellowship life-changing and best door prizes on record! ~Kendall Brown

Discipleship Corner
Do you want to look more like Jesus? Do you want to grow in your relationship with the Lord? If your answer is “yes” (hint: it should be!), I have a suggestion:
Make disciples. Be intentional about making disciples. Make more followers of Jesus! Pray for those who don’t know the Lord yet and look for opportunities to share the Gospel with them. Pray for opportunities to lead others as they follow the Lord. Be intentional and purposeful about making disciples who make disciples.
This is a “sure-fire” way to look more like Jesus and to grow in your relationship with the Lord. Will you join me on this journey?
Go Get ‘em! Pastor Dave

“Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father we too may live a new life.” Romans 6:3-5

“Firsts” are often celebrated in our lives. First anniversary, first birthday, first job, etc. are all memorable. For the men of Hope we had the opportunity to participate in and enjoy the first Men’s Camp of the Hope men. Between fifty and sixty men of all ages gathered at the 3C Ranch in Oracle for a time of fun, fellowship and time in God’s Word. The setting was perfect with beautiful weather. Some men stayed in the camp housing, some in tents and a few in RVs. Great food was provided by our guys and our camp speaker was Pastor Jeremiah York from The Ridge Christian Fellowship. Men enjoyed playing a variety of games, hiking and just getting to know one another over a cup of coffee. The highlight of the Camp was the appearance of two manly men named Dirty Mike and Buck Norris who had a strange resemblance to pastors Randy and Dave who brought a hilarious few moments to each general meeting. I’m sure that our time in the “wilderness” was enjoyable for all and important in bringing our men closer together. Thanks to those who made this happen! We are already looking forward to the next retreat for the men of Hope. ~Doug Dennee
The inaugural Men’s Camp was outstanding! It was so great to be able to worship and fellowship with the men from the church. We all had a blast playing various games such as a chipping and putting contest, cornhole, and other lawn games. We had a great evening of worship and a message about the importance of struggle. I left with new friends and a healthy fear of mullets and short shorts. ~Brett Adler

Awana Testimony from Josh Alexander:
As the spiritual leader of our home, the responsibility and accountability of training our children with a Christian worldview resides solely with me. There are many ways to facilitate this training, and one way Kristin and I have decided to help “train up children in the way they should go” (Proverbs 22:6) is to actively participate in Awana. No other method of discipling our children has been as successful at writing the word of God on their hearts as Awana has. Not only that, our kids absolutely love their time at Awana. They have great mentors in their teachers, enjoy the challenge of memorizing scripture, and rip it up during game time.
As a volunteer, it is a humbling honor to be a small part of what God is doing in each of these childrens’ lives. We have been blessed to see so many of our active kiddos make a decision to follow Christ and pursue a lifelong relationship with Him. They understand their sin nature, the need for Christ’s redeeming power, and respond to God’s calling in their heart and being fully forgiven by Christ’s work on the cross. When a child decides to publicly proclaim their faith and get baptized, the gratitude I have for the mighty power of God is overwhelming. When our kids bring their neighbors who’ve never heard the Gospel, and those kids respond…whoa…talk about an incredible opportunity to transform a child’s life.
Kristin and I are blessed to be part of such an incredible ministry. We are grateful for the leaders and the support of Hope Community Church and would encourage you to enroll your child in Awana to ensure you can answer the question of what you are doing to train your children in the way they should go – they are our greatest investment in the Kingdom of God.

It is such a blessing to see our children with additional needs being served well by those who have been called to do so on Sunday mornings. The relationships being created are such a wonderful picture of Christ’s love for all people. We are currently in need of one additional adult volunteer for Sunday mornings. Please reach out to Sarah Whiting for more information at specialneeds@hopetucson.com.
