Offer HOPE, grow in COMMUINITY, and be the CHURCH

BE the Church

At HOPE COMMUNITY CHURCH, we desire to offer HOPE, grow in COMMUNITY, and be the CHURCH.  By “be the church”, we are referring to God’s call on the church to love the orphan and the widow in their distress (James 1:28), to feed the hungry and visit the sick (Matthew 25:44-45), to love with more than just words (1 John 3:18)…  In the book we are going through on Sunday mornings, Isaiah, God tells Jerusalem what worship and living for the Lord should include:

“… to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter— when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard. Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I. “If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk, and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday. The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.” (Isaiah 58:6–11)

Amazing promises are given here for those that serve and care for the least.  Our desire should be to live that out personally and together as a church.

Here are some opportunities to be involved as a church:  (1) Our Canadian team has spent a month serving native youth struggling with some dark issues.  Be sure to connect and encourage our team in this work (take them out to coffee or have them visit your home group).  (2) On August 25, we will be having a special service (the weekend of women’s camp) where we will spend the entire Sunday service packing items to bless local homeless shelters, nursing homes, and children’s programs.  (3) Want to help foster kids and their families?  Contact Mary Jones at marycbjones@yahoo.com to see how you can help the ministry of CarePortal.  (4) Serve with your home group.  We ask each home group to consider adopting a Hope missionary and/or a local project.  On Saturday (9/28), we will spend the Saturday being the church to our community through painting, weeding, visiting nursing homes, and encouraging those who need encouragement.  We call it HopeServes.  Although home groups will be leading the projects, you do not need to be in that home group to serve at HopeServes.
I love the generous heart of this church.  May we continue to be the church – spending ourselves on behalf of the hungry (as Isaiah puts it).

~Pastor Randy

Pathways Class - Begins Tuesday, August 27 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. in the Community Room.

Pathways is a 12-week video series on Scripture to help you learn God’s heart for all nations.  Learn how ordinary people are a part of God’s plan for the nations and how you don’t have to be a missionary in the field to take part in sharing the Good News to the rest of the world.
PathWays draws attention to the thread woven throughout the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, of God making Himself known to all peoples.

Pathways will be facilitated by James & Linda Nissley.
If you have any questions, please contact jenissley@gmail.com or 520-213-9254.

Experiencing the Promise of the Book of Acts
This Bible study provides an accessible, theologically sound guide to the book of Acts.  Over 17 chapters you will be  invited to peer into the lives of the apostles in the days following the resurrection and ascension of Jesus as they experienced new power from the indwelling Holy Spirit and a new understanding of the Old Testament Scriptures.

The class begins Thursday, September 5 for nine weeks - from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the Community Room.  If you are interested in taking the class, please contact Sheree Dennee at dsdennee@msn.com by August 15 so we can order materials.

What's the deal with Bible translations? Why are there so many translations out there? And which is the best?
These and other questions will be addressed at this Saturday conference, so don't miss it!

July Mini Conference

Lynne Hooge, HopeKids Director
lhooge@hopetucson.com

As our summer break comes to an end, we are praying for our HopeKids as they go back to school or back to their studies at home. May God guide you and bless you as you start this new school year. May you be a shining light for Jesus wherever you go!
We have appreciated your flexibility as we have navigated around the construction at Wilson School. Thank you for adjusting to changes as needed. We hope and pray that it will be completed soon.
The women will be at Women’s Camp on August 25th so we will have a Family Outreach project in the service that Sunday. There won’t be any HopeKids program that Sunday so that our women can attend camp.
It is such a blessing serving as your HopeKids Director!
~Lynne

Our Key Verses this Month:
I know that the Lord is great, and that our Lord is greater than all gods. The Lord does whatever pleases him, in the heavens and on the earth, in the seas and all their depths.  (Psalm 135:5-6)

 Big Picture Question:
Who is in control of everything? God is in control of everything in heaven and on earth. Nothing is outside of God’s good plan.
