14 Years!

I turned 14 during my eighth-grade year at Tortolita Middle School.  Like most middle school boys, I was an expert at awkwardness.  Yet, as we say at HOPE, “Awkward is awesome!”
This year, Hope turns 14 and we are celebrating our birthday right after church on February 2nd.  I hope you can grab some chairs or a blanket and head to Riverfront Park.  It is a super time to celebrate God’s faithfulness, enjoy great food, and hang out with brothers and sisters.
Our mission at HOPE COMMUNITY CHURCH has always been: to offer HOPE, grow in COMMUNITY, and be the CHURCH.  A birthday is a great time to remind ourselves of this call on our lives.
Offer HOPE:  In Matthew 28:19, Jesus gave us the call to “go and make disciples of all nations…”.  Let’s be intentional this year to build relationships with people so that we can share with them the greatest news – that Jesus Christ loves them and laid down His life to save them.  Invite your friends/neighbors to join you at church and HopeYouth.  Invite friends to join your kids at Awana.  Plan to attend our mini-conference on Evangelism (7/26) with our friends Eric and Bree Loveland.
Grow in COMMUNITY:  Hebrews 10 commands us to consider how we can spur each other on toward love and good deeds as we continue meeting together.  Be regular at Sunday Service this year, and in addition to Sunday morning, make it a goal to be with church family at least one more time per week.  The main avenue we have at Hope for this is Home Groups.  It allows our families to gather for relationship, reading the Word together, and serving the Lord together.  Other opportunities include: HopeLife, HopeYouth, Thursday Morning Ladies Study, Monday Night Ladies Study, Friday Morning Men’s Study.  Community can also be a real blessing to your family - plan to attend our mini-conference (4/26) on strengthening your marriage.
Be the CHURCH:  Since God has so loved us, we must love others (1 John 4:11).    The church is to care for the thirsty, the hungry, the hurting, and the lonely.  Attend the mini conference on coming alongside people facing grief (2/15).  Consider serving in one of our short-term mission trips:  Rock Nest Ranch Camp (Canada) June/July, Philippines in October.  God has blessed us to be a blessing!
Lord help us be faithful unto you in the days you give us.  Help us to offer HOPE, grow in COMMUNITY, and be the CHURCH.

Hey Hope! It is a blessing getting to worship with you every Sunday. Did you know that Hope has a Spotify account? You can access playlists every week that have the songs we will be singing for Sunday worship. You can also listen to our larger, more comprehensive playlist which includes songs that we have done in the past! If you are like me, you will enjoy listening to the songs throughout the week and being encouraged of the truths of Scripture through music. It is also a great way to prepare you for singing along with the worship team on Sunday mornings and familiarizing yourself with all the songs. So, feel free to take advantage of this. You can access the larger playlist here! And the Sunday Spotify playlist links are posted on the Hope Facebook and Instagram accounts each week.
Blessings,
Pastor Christian

His Mercy is More:  A Mini Conference on Grief & Loss

Alone and together, death and loss affects all of us. While none of us welcomes the kind of sorrow that comes from devastating loss, the truth is that God will meet us in our darkest hours. His Mercy Will Always Be More.
Join in for an opportunity to enter the conversation about deep loss and sorrow. Whether you are currently in your own dark hour, or wanting to learn how to best come alongside someone else in deep pain, we will explore common emotions, and skills that can be developed to help love one another better when trials come knocking.

Just a friendly reminder for all you Hopers who signed up for FMSC at Oro Valley Church of the Nazarene Church on February 8!

Hey Young Adults,
Pastor Gary here. I hope that you all are having a great start to your New Year! For those that do not know, a significant change will be occurring in the HopeLife Ministry. There is a time and season for everything, and HopeLife will be entering a new season starting in February. Carl & Ashley Vereen will no longer be leading the ministry after January, and although we may still see them for special occasions, January 25 was their last day leading HopeLife. After prayer and consideration, their family will now be attending OVCN. Carl & Ashley have done a wonderful job with HopeLife and the church is grateful for the support that they have shown the ministry all these years. They will be missed at Hope!  In the meantime, my wife Paty and I will be stepping in to lead HopeLife. We are looking forward to sharing life with you all!

Saturday, February 1 at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room. We’ll have a special meeting to talk about the future of HopeLife!  We’d love for all young adults to attend to get better input moving forward.

Saturday, February 15 – 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room.
Saturday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room. We’ll be playing board games with HopeSeniors in a battle between the generations! You won’t want to miss it.
