What Is Your Ministry At Hope?
“You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last...”
(John 15:16, NIV)
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10, ESV)
These are two of my favorite verses. I am so amazed and blessed that the Lord chooses to use regular old people like me and you. He intends to use us to bear eternally abiding fruit. That means people will come to eternal salvation in some way through us. God also calls us His special workmanship – which He Himself has formed and given experiences and gifts so that we would walk into good works which He is preparing for us in advance. Truly amazing!
Lately, I have seen so many of all y’all serving the Lord. For example, at our Father’s Day carnival, about 30 of you stepped up to cook and run activities. We have 20 people going to serve at a camp for First Nation People of Canada. People are leading home groups, volunteering at VBS, serving as youth leaders, greeting at church, etc., etc., and etc.
This is a crucial part of walking with Jesus and the family life of the church. At Hope we say “Every member is a minister.” We all should have a place where we are serving and applying what the Lord is pouring into us.
So how would you answer the question in this season: “What is your ministry at Hope?” Is there a place where you and others are serving together? It could be directed at edifying the church body or be directed at loving the world and giving the Gospel. Maybe a first step is joining a home group and looking for ways to serve with them as a church family. Let’s offer HOPE, grow in COMMUNITY, and be the CHURCH!

Progressive Christianity is the term used for a movement that claims belief in Jesus, identifies as being part of the Christian faith, but has progressed away from historic Christianity. Recent surveys have indicated that only 17-21 percent of Christians regularly attending church subscribe to a Biblical worldview as defined broadly by core Christian beliefs. While many within the movement identify themselves as progressive Christians, some are simply unaware of how popular secular ideas have impacted their theology. The movement has redefined the inerrancy of Scripture. The movement is growing and has ensnared many who were raised in the evangelical church. How do we understand, respond to and engage with those who have taken on progressive Christian views? We will discuss the lowered view of Scripture and misguided sense of empathy progressive Christians hold and talk through how we should understand and engage them in discussion out of love in hopes to point them back to the truth that is God's.

Kyria Kelly, HopeKids Director

Happy July, Hope!
We have already had such a busy summer! We successfully completed our second ever VBS, learning to put on the armor of God. We had an average of 81 students and 64 volunteers in attendance each day, along with a volunteer prayer team backing us up behind the scenes. Everyone put in such hard work; it is amazing to see how God gifted each volunteer with passion and excitement for their service during the week, and it has been incredibly rewarding to hear the students share about what they learned.
Most of you know that Skipper Vereen was interning for us this past school year. He recently completed his internship; if you see him, encourage him as he continues on to college and following wherever the Lord leads him next. He has been such an encouragement and blessing to all of us!
You also may have heard by now that I am pregnant and, consequently, stepping down from the role of HopeKids Director some time in August. The incredibly capable Lynne Hooge (pronounced “hoagie”) will be stepping in and blessing us all with her wisdom, insight, joy, passion, and many years leading other children’s ministries! If you haven’t met her yet, I highly recommend you hunt her down and get to know her. She is officially joining our team this month so we can have a smooth transition before I step down.
The Lord was so kind to me when He opened the door for me to fill this role for the past few years. I cannot express the genuine delight it has been to serve, and serve alongside, all of you. Thank you for being my family. I look forward to continuing in relationship with you all after my baby is born!
May you have an awesome day today in Christ!
~Kyria

“He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.” (Colossians 1:28-29)
Growing in maturity continues to be our focus this year. As each group works through the Discovery Series, we pray that God would sharpen us and feed us wisdom that allows us to grow closer to Him.
We also believe that being in a home group is vital to grow as a Christian.
If you are interested in being a part of a home group, please email me at kmason@hopetucson.com.

Our vision in Men’s Ministry is to train and build up men in godly masculinity. We desire all men at Hope to be rooted in a Biblical identity and to embrace their role as leaders in the Kingdom.
