Repentance
“The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature.” Luke 8:14
There is a realization required in this walk with Christ that this world has nothing that can quench my emptiness. In fact, this life’s worries, riches, and pleasures can actually choke out a relationship with Christ. We must make the decision that Jesus is better and is our only hope.
When we repent, we acknowledge wrongdoing and a deep desire for change. In addition to that, repentance is a conviction that this world has nothing to offer me:
"The first step toward God is a step away from the lies of the world. It is a renunciation of the lies we have been told about ourselves and our neighbors and our universe… Repentance is not an emotion. It is not feeling sorry for your sins. It is a decision. It is deciding that you have been wrong in supposing that you could manage your own life and be your own god; it is deciding that you were wrong in thinking that you had, or could get, the strength, education and training to make it on your own; it is deciding that you have been told a pack of lies about yourself and your neighbors and your world. And it is deciding that God in Jesus Christ is telling you the truth." (Eugene Peterson)
What an invitation we have from Jesus to repent from our sins and the wrong beliefs we have held in this world and run to our compassionate God. The world behind me, the cross before me…
~Pastor Randy

Hello Hope Family!
Thank you for all your help with our Emerald Crossing VBS! We appreciate all your prayers, donations, and time. It was a great week learning about Jesus, our great shepherd and we couldn’t have pulled it off without your help. The kids raised $1,756.12 for the Kosovo mission's trip. The Pastors had to dye their hair green if the kids raised over $1,500.00. Way to go kids! Please pray for the kids and the seeds that were planted. May the kids use what they learned and apply it to their lives.
Wishing you a refreshing summer!
~Lynne

Our Key Verse This Month:
