Flee Your Sin, Fight Your Sin, Be Ruthless!
In seminary, I took a course called “Contemporary Moral Issues”. One of our assignments was to write down 100 negative consequences that could happen if I personally had an affair. I thought to myself: “100 items are going to be hard to come up with!” However, as I started listing out possible negative consequences, I realized the truth that the effects of our sin spread out into other people’s lives – like falling dominoes our one sin can knock down many other people we love.
The story of Achan in Joshua 7 gives us an example of how deadly our sin can spread to others. God was with His people in miraculous and gracious ways giving them the promised land by a supernatural victory over Jericho, but then one man named Achan sinned secretly going against something God had strictly forbidden. The result - God said to the entire nation: “I will not be with you anymore…” (Joshua 7:12) They began losing battles and mourning over their dead soldiers, until they dealt with the sin of Achan.
Now going into my 29th year of pastoral ministry, I can say, with countless unfortunate stories, that our secret sins and our unrepentant hard hearts affect more than just ourselves. Our sin damages our families, our friends, our churches, and countless other relationships we could not even imagine. In addition, it is useless to hide our sins because "our sins will surely find us out" (Numbers 32:23).
We need to flee sin, fight our sin, and be ruthless against those temptations. We need to be people of repentance, always turning away from that sinful nature, being honest with others, and getting accountability from brothers and sisters in Christ. I know I need to be this way. Satan will tempt us to repent later or whisper that there is no hope for you if you do repent. But He is a liar. There is grace with our Lord. If we confess, He will forgive (1 John 1:9). God can restore. For the sake of ourselves, for our church family, and the damage our sin can cause others, let us not tolerate sin in our own life.
~Pastor Randy

Worldview & the Media
Matt Peyton has been teaching Biblical Worldview at Pusch Ridge Christian Academy for 23 years. During this mini-conference we will be studying and discussing: What is a worldview? Is my worldview Biblical? How can questions, dialogue and relationships be used to point people to Christ? Especially when engaging people with differing views and in the media. So, please attend if you’re interested in discussing the BIG questions of life, and how to apply them in your everyday living.
