Sharing the Good News

For the next few months, we want to focus in on OFFERING HOPE.  God calls us, His Church, to share the Good News so that people might be brought to peace with God.

When I was a youth pastor, we would regularly attend the dare2share conference on evangelism.  At the conference, the students memorized a way to communicate the message of salvation so that they could always be prepared to give an answer for the hope that they have.

But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect…  (1 Peter 3:15)

…Here is what each student memorized:

GOSPEL

G – God created us to be with Him.
O – Our sin separates us from God.
S – Sin cannot be removed by good deeds.
P – Paying the price for sin, Jesus died and rose again.
E – Everyone who trusts in HIM alone has eternal life.
L – Life with Jesus starts now and lasts forever.

Here is a quick video to help you be ready to share your faith and start some conversations that God might use in someone’s life.

Matthew 28:19 states, “Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Over the past forty plus years I can’t count the number of sermons that I have heard on discipleship or classes that I have attended on discipleship. In the past eight months both my business partner and my brother have died in their sleep unexpectedly. I tried to talk to my partner about Christ. He responded... I know how important church is to you and Merrillee but that’s not me. Don’t broach me again. I attempted approaching him again several times but to no avail. With my brother I would get him to go back to church and in fellowship with Christ but it wasn’t consistent. Most recently I had a very straight forward conversation with him and told him he needed to return to Christ and get involved in his church. He responded that he did not get anything out of attending church. I responded that you can’t expect to receive anything if you don’t make any efforts. He said that I was probably right but unfortunately he passed away a few weeks later. Honestly, I’m not sure where he stood with the Savior when he died.

I woke up several different times in the night recently wondering what more that I could have done. My heart is very saddened as I am not sure I will see them in heaven. It truly will only be through the grace of God. God reminded me that as you disciple you never know whose heart you will reach. I then recalled Merrillee and I saw a young couple ten years later from a church we attended in Atlanta. They came up to us and said, we never thought we would see you again, but wanted you to know our daughter indicated you were the influence on her accepting Christ. Both Merrillee and I had no idea and were pleasantly surprised.

Don’t stop reaching out to your loved ones and friends about Jesus as there may not be a tomorrow.  ~Bob

Discipleship Corner

2 Timothy 2:2 says, “And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.”

As we hear and learn from the Lord, are we passing that on to others?  Are we spreading the Gospel, the Good News of Jesus Christ?  The Lord calls us to share Jesus with others.  The life-changing power of God!  Let’s focus on sharing our faith, being bold, praying and looking for opportunities to share our testimony and speak boldly about Jesus.
I’m excited to see how God moves in powerful ways as we pray and focus on evangelism these next few months.

Go get ‘em!  Pastor Dave

Happy May Hope!

As we wrap up the school year, it’s time for class promotions – woohoo!! On Sunday, May 30 plan to move each of your current K-5th grade students up a grade. If your children will start kindergarten in the fall, please plan to move them up on Sunday, August 8. This will allow them to remain in the preschool classroom on family Sundays through the summer. If you feel your student is ready to move up now, let me know and we’ll coordinate the transition.

As I mentioned last month, if your 2nd-5th grader has not yet received a “My Time with God” journal, please let me know and I will get one to you. I will be hanging out in the K-1st classroom after the service each family Sunday if your student wants to come share with me something awesome they learned about God through their personal Bible study in the previous month!

It’s such a joy to fellowship with you all!
