A Little Risk
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6, NIV)
Our relationship with the Lord is based on faith. If I want to draw near to God, I must believe that He exists, even though I can’t see Him. And, that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him. It has also been my personal experience that in this walk with Jesus, I experience a little more of His presence when I am “stepping out in faith.” This usually includes a little bit of risk and puts me out of my comfort zone. For example, going on a mission trip in a culture that is not my own is outside of my comfort zone and requires many little steps of faith, but what I usually experience is a closeness with the Lord that is super sweet. Another example: witnessing and having a spiritual conversation with someone in my neighborhood is risky and may result in a loss of relationship, but I find that God is right there close just as He promised.
Starting Hope felt like such a risk, but for our launch team, it was a time of experiencing the Lord like never before. Once again Hope is entering a season of risk. We are stepping out on July 1 to build our new worship center, HopeKids wing, and courtyard for fellowship. Not all the money has arrived, but I have come to expect His presence in these steps of faith. I believe He will show up.
For some of you, joining a HG this year, going on a short-term mission, reading the Bible with a co-worker, volunteering at VBS, or committing financially to a missionary might be that little step of faith that brings you out of your comfort zone and causes you to have to trust that God exists and that He rewards those who seek Him.
This is truly a great adventure, and it is a joy to walk in faith with you all at Hope.
